Instrumental teachers should always

  • Arrive at the school punctually, at least ten minutes before the agreed start of teaching time.
  • Be suitably dressed and adhere to the school's policy regarding appearance.
  • Plan and prepare for each lesson in advance, using appropriate resources.
  • Abide by the school's policies and procedures relating to discipline and behaviour.
  • Switch off mobile phones during contact hours with children.
  • Be prepared to be involved with school performances, including assemblies etc. as appropriate.
  • Be sensitive to the range of cultures and religions within the school, and ensure equal opportunities to all children.

 

When accepting a position in a school, please note

  • Name, address and telephone number of the school.
  • The age range of pupils you will be teaching.
  • The name of the contact person at the school (e.g. head teacher, music co-ordinator)
  • The time you will start teaching ( arriving at least ten minutes before)

 

When you arrive at the school

  • Report in and introduce yourself.
  • Find out which groups of children you will teaching
  • Ensure that the accommodation is appropriate and can be arranged for effective teaching
  • Learn where the classrooms of your pupils are.

 

Discipline

  • Do not tolerate bad behaviour.
  • If a pupil demonstrates behaviour that is unacceptable to you, implement the school's discipline and behaviour policy.
  • Inform the class teacher the same day, so that it can be 'nipped in the bud'.

 

Equipment

  • Ensure that you check whether equipment in the school is available for you to use each week.
  • Take all your teaching resources with you, being prepared for pupils to forget sheet music and/or instruments
  • Do not photocopy published music. You are putting the school at risk of prosecution by the PRS.

 

Safety

  • You are responsible for the safety of the pupils in your care.
  • NEVER leave pupils unattended.

  • Please remember that you are representing both yourself and Trafford Music Service
